This Week On The Better Brain Fitness Podcast: “The Challenge of Systems-Thinking and the Failures of Reductionism”
When it comes to human health, thinking holistically, or in systems, does not come easily. It's much simpler, and perhaps more appealing, to look for single causes and single solutions. Searching for smoking guns and silver bullets feels like a grand quest. It’s the stuff of TV & film, after all.
But, as we argue in this episode of Better Brain Fitness, true systems-thinking is essential if we wish to break free from the decades-long rut we've been in when it comes to medical therapeutics.

TV Recommendation: Somebody, Somewhere
Speaking of TV, my wife Jenny and I recently made quick work of the first two seasons of “Somebody Somewhere” on Max (formerly HBO Max).
It has nothing to do with the brain, but it's just too good for me not to share. It's one of the best shows I've seen in some time.
It's uplifting and life-affirming, yet completely authentic. And the performances are phenomenal. If you miss hanging out with your high school band of misfits, it’ll scratch that itch.
The only downside is now comes the long wait for Season 3. Maybe I'll watch the whole thing again in the meantime...

Thank you so much for your efforts to educate us on brain health and what actions we can take to lower our risk of brain disease. I am learning so much! Can you tell me how to go about finding a primary care physician that emphasizes the whole person and prevention rather than treating individual problems as they arise? Thank you. Maria
